Can You See Me
I walk past you, your gaze to the floor
I try to make eye contact, you proceed to ignore
You play pretend like you do not see me here
Deep in your thoughts, letting no one interfere
Can you see me?
I stand in front of you in the grocery line
Alone together
Humanity being redefined
Can you see me?
You watch me fall and turn your head
Dare not help, ignore me instead
Can you see me?
Am I even here on this earth with you?
Communication only when you must
You only speak to me when there is work to do?
There is no community, there is no trust
What happened to us as a human race?
Nothing but hate, what a disgrace
Can you see me?
I am invisible except when I’m home
When I leave, I feel very alone
Everyone’s wall built sky high
Better to protect yourself, better to lie
Can you see me?
You know I am there, you choose not to look
Staring at your phone, to see what’s new on Facebook
Choosing to let this moment cease to exist
You would rather scroll through your virtual friend list
Can you see me?
Lift your head, Look at me please!
Stop treating me as if I am a deadly disease
Acknowledge each other, say a kind word
There are a lot of people that need to feel heard
Hidden in plain sight, can you see me?
